Jesus, the Anointed of God, is the second Person in the Godhead. He is The WORD, who was in the beginning with God (John 1:2). All things were made by Him, and without Him was not anything made that was made (verse 3). God told the devil in the Garden of Eden that there would be One coming who would bruise his head (Genesis 3:15).
And generations later God told his covenant partner Abraham that in his seed all the nations of the world would be blessed (Genesis 22:18; 26:4). Throughout the Old Testament He spoke through the mouths of the prophets, calling those things that were not as though they were, that this Messiah (Hebrew: Meshiach; ha meshiach: The Anointed One) was coming (Isaiah 7:14; 53:1-12; 61:1-2; Micah 5:2; Malachi 4:6; Romans 4:17). Moses said, referring to Him, in Deuteronomy 18:15, “The Lord your God will raise up for you a prophet from the midst of you, of your brothers, like me. You must listen to him.”
