God warned the children of Israel to keep His covenant and His testimonies so they would be protected from the curse. God is not the author of the curse, but the Redeemer of His people under its power. “If there had been no sin, there would be no curse” (Isaiah 33:24; 35:5-6). The curse was a powerful force. It had overtaken the whole world. God was not being hard or demanding in putting a burden on His people through His statutes and ordinances. But only a power greater than the evil could stop the effect of the curse. That power is The WORD of God. The keeping of God’s covenant was Israel’s only deliverance.
Jesus, The WORD made flesh, gave Himself as the sacrifice to redeem mankind from the curse. He was made the curse–made to be sin for us.
